If you’ve ever noticed a large group of dead or lethargic flies in your house, it’s probably as a result of cluster fly activity. There are four main species of cluster fly in the UK and they are very common. Cluster flies migrate from outdoors into the roof spaces of houses and other buildings to hibernate over winter; they will then come back to life in the spring.
It’s possible to deal with small groups of cluster flies simply by vacuuming them up, but larger infestations will require the services of a pest control expert. Treatment is best carried out (and most cost-effective) after the first frost of winter, when all the flies will be hibernating inside the building. An appropriate insecticide spray will deal with the problem quickly and effectively.
